Ledaal ble bygget som lystgård for familien Kielland i årene 1799-1803. Navnet «Ledaal» er en konstruksjon av de siste bokstavene i navnene til byggherre Gabriel Schanche Kielland (1760 – 1821) og hans kone Johanna Margaretha Bull. Siden 1936 har herregården vært i Stavanger museums eie og fra 1950 har Ledaal vært kongebolig.
