The beautiful Unda, the crown jewel of the boat collectionm belongs to the category of big sailing canoes called D canoes or canoe crusiers. She was designed by Gerhand Höborg and built at Källhagen on Djurgården (Stockholm) in1921 for C. A. Silfversparre. The association FKI (Föreningen för kanotidrott) has always bee the Unda's home club until she was donated to the National Maritime Museum in 1987. Unda's most prominent owner was Arne Ekström, who owned the boat from 1935 until his death in 1987. Arne and his wife Elna Ekström sailed Unda together for more than 50 years. When Arne passed away Elna could not bring herself to sell the beloved boat, and instead she saw to it that Unda came to the museum. Unda was meticulously kept up by Arne, and in maintenance was on many occasions prioritized over the comfort of the family. No matter how wet and cold the crew was after having landed, Unda had to be looked after first. After more than 90 years, the care the boat has received is still obvious to the viewer. To the canoe Unda belongs a complete sailing outfit, log books and a set of china hand-painted by Elna. Unda was donated to the National Maritime Museum in 1988 by Elna Ekström.
